Slaying the dragon

She was underneath George one day filing her nails
when she heard a knock at the door.
He puffed and panted and grunted a bit
then absently fell on the floor.

She sighed, rolled her eyes and put on a robe
George cussed and got to his feet.
Apopoplectic and wheezing a lot
she told him to rest in a seat.

The visitor knocked again a bit harder
she wondered 'who could this be?'
George told her to 'leave it, it might not be safe
not expecting no company!'

He shouted ‘who be it?’ and waited a time
but no one cared to reply,
so she stood a while then opened the door
to a strange looking thing with one eye!

Said he ‘Where’s that George? He’s been lying to me,
telling tales of a big fiery dragon!’
Said she “‘tis not lies you horrible man
go away and return to your wagon!’

George flew to the door (looked scarlet by now)
she thought he would kill the man dead,
he took hold of his collar and shook him about
threw him right over yonder instead!

‘You call me a liar Ted Smirthwaite again
and I’ll tell folk just what you’re about!
That wench from the tavern, the one who you slain
your missus ‘ll know if I shout!’

She wondered a bit then she wondered some more
if this dragon thing was really true.
Said she ‘George please tell me what happened again
when that dragon you so bravely slew!’

A long story short and this ain’t very nice
‘slaying the dragon’s a myth.
Tis a sayin' for ‘making love to the wife,’
So her hackles rose up and went stiff!

Said she ‘who’s this fiery dragon you slain?’
He went redder and averted his eyes.
She chased him all over with louder refrain
was St George to meet his demise?

Said she ‘let me guess you 'orrible man,
that tart from the tavern I’ll wager!’
She reached for the cast iron frying pan
knowing she'd start something major!

Said he ‘my angel you don’t understand,
that fool who just left on the wagon,
boasts 'bout the beasts HE'S slain in this land
and dear Lord he slayed MANY a dragon!’

Said she ‘you disappoint me for at least
no longer my knight in bright armour,
I thought you’d slaughtered a dangerous beast
now you've just gone and killed all my ardour.’

So I’m telling you all from this day on
'Slaying the dragon’ is just really naughty.
It has nothing to do with the fiery one
which is why Georges wife was all haughty.

The feather landed gently at his feet. The boy looked back up at the sky and let his balloon go. It was a fair trade. ~ quote by Dominic my wonderful son

So funny, it reminded me of a "carry on movie" for some reason. This would be a good childrens story with some adaptation.
