The place was full of relics,
Me granny and me aunt,
Me grandpa with his cap and pipe,
Doing as he liked and all those things he cant.
My father stood there tall and proud,
A man so bold with pride,
But where had my dear old mother got to,
She rarely left his side.
As I lifted up the rusty lid,
And curiously gazed inside,
‘This is no time for a mid-day nap!’
Old father time cried.
But mother didn't as much as stir or peek,
She just snuggled up in her casket,
As cosy and comfy and warm,
As a kitten in a basket.
‘If you lie there any longer,
‘They’ll preserve you till the end of time.
To which mother gave a sneaky wink,
For was that such a crime.
So now you know how the Egyptians,
Came to mummify the dead,
I’m off now for me forty winks,
In me nice warm cosy bed!

This is a jolly poem, Midnight! Good, brief character descriptions of grandpa, father and mother. I enjoyed the rhyme, flow and story overall. Thanks for the smiles. H x
